Frugal Living in the Beauty Aisle

Yes, frugal living is possible when you are looking for natural beauty products to care for your hair and skin. Many people believe that if they go down the path of frugal living then they have to do without many of their favorite beauty products.

This is not true.

Often you will find that your beauty regimen will improve because you will begin to use natural ingredients to replace the chemical laden, high priced beauty items.

I will share with you three different potions you can make to replace high dollar products. These three techniques are frugal because you can buy the ingredients at your local dollar store.

Lavender Shower Oil

  • 4 ounce bottle of Vitamin E oil (found with lotions or in pharmacy aisle)
  • Lavender essential oil (also found in the pharmacy aisle or at your local GNC or health food store)
  • Put 7 or 8 drops of lavender oil directly into vitamin E oil; replace the cap and shake well. Apply small amounts of the oil directly to wet skin after showering. Be very careful not to slip in the tub. The oil will keep the moisture from evaporating. Blot your skin dry with a towel.

This lavender shower oil will prevent you from getting that horrible dry skin itch this winter and the aromatherapy value of the lavender oil will help to relax you.

    Witch Hazel for Acne

  • 16 ounce bottle of Witch Hazel Astringent (found with first aid products)
  • Cotton balls
  • After cleaning your face with soap and warm (not hot) water, gently pat your skin dry. Apply the Witch Hazel with fresh cotton balls and let dry on skin. The Witch Hazel will begin to heal the acne eruptions within a week and reduce new outbreaks. Of course, reducing your stress level and eating nutritiously will help to heal your skin.

    Flax Seed Hair Gel

  • Whole flax seeds (found in the baking aisle or with the salad toppers in produce)
  • Filtered water
  • Add about 2 tablespoons of flax seeds to one cup of filtered water in a small sauce pan. Bring to a low boil for one minute and remove from heat. Let stand until room temperature. Strain the mixture and place gel into a glass or plastic bottle. If you would like, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Apply gel to damp hair and style as usual. This hair gel smooths hair and prevents fly-aways. It is a great hair gel for the winter when static electricity is on the rise.

With these three natural beauty ideas, you can start to replace those expensive beauty products that are oftentimes hard on your hair and skin due to the chemicals used to make them. Now you can improve your frugal living journey.
